Give ‘em hell, James. You make a great point, that just because someone is writing for the web (unless they’re clearly writing their crap as an opinion, which she wasn’t…) they have a fucking responsibility to get their shit straight. Making up stuff is not cool for the journalist types. I mean online writers (including myself–and I’ve been slackin’- at least on the writing) struggle for credibility anyway. What passes for “mainstream” journalism in our fine country is apalling enough, we don’t need online writers like this woman (whoever she is- though her name is vaguely familiar) using conjecture as fact. I think she owes you a very public apology… not, that, as you say, it’s really worth your fury… but still. sigh.

p.s. folks the Orionids meteor shower will be happening in the wee hours tonight if you can find a sky without too much light pollution. And I didn’t make that up!

How interesting. Since Jimmy wrote this blog yesterday, a reader of Miller’s column left a pointed comment and now there is an update inserted at the bottom. The paragraph that says, “It’s a lesson even Gunn had to learn for himself”, is now in strike-out mode, meaning it has a line all the way through the text. Curious. If the writer thought they had erred in making a leap to erroneous facts, why not just strike the text in its entirety?

well said! & you have every right to be mad… it wasn’t that she didn’t like your work or that you’re getting pissy cause she “hurt your feelings”… she grossly misrepresented HUMANZEE & the reasonings for XBOX rejecting it, any artist would (& should) be upset! i personally loved it but then again i’m warped… i say F*CK liz shannon miller & the “retardedly” infactual article she rode in on!

Well, I loved every foul mouthed offensive second of Humanzee! And I never got a “special kid” vibe off of him… Glad you didn’t go through XBOX so I could enjoy more that 12 seconds. “This Man” has nothing Humanzee! Just want to say I won’t jump on the “I hate Liz” bandwagon here but I read her piece yesterday and it made me see a little red. Like Tess, I saw a half human character, not a retarded character, and if you can’t grock to that fact, 1) You don’t know how to read a film, 2) You have no business selling yourself as a serious writer because you obviously didn’t do your homework, and 3) You haven’t yet clued in to the fact that making things up so that you’ll be noticed and get the attention you desire is not fair to serious artists who could have their work damaged by your careless writing. Try to have some integrity. I know James stands behind everything he does and admits when he may have done something wrong or has miscalculated. Shame on you CNN, Salon, and any other major website that picked up the article.
